The European Union has stressed that digital technologies will play a vital role in competitiveness of companies throughout the value chain, especially when it comes to meeting customer expectations in a service-oriented market.

In its overall vision, the energy system is moving towards variable and decentralised sources of energy, especially with regard to renewable energies. This trend, together with the flood of digital technologies, is breaking a series of barriers that formed the status quo in the energy sector:

• Regarding applications and data sources, building synergies between the agents that manage the data sources, the technical offices, the service and application providers, and the clients.
