On 27 June, the Basque Energy Cluster Association (ACE) held its 2024 Annual General Meeting at the BEC. The meeting was attended by 210 members and the audited accounts and the Management Report for the 2023 financial year were approved.
Some of the main milestones in 2023 that were mentioned included the first meeting of the Industry Decarbonisation Forum, the launch and activities of the RVCTI Energy Forum, the business mission to Japan with 19 entities and the strengthening of the Strategic Watch service. The Management Plan and membership fees for 2024 were also formally approved by the AGM. After the formal part of the AGM there was an institutional event, which was attended by more than 120 members and representatives of invited entities and institutions. After the official opening by the President of the Basque Energy Cluster Association, Luis Rodríguez Llopis, the General Manager of the Basque Energy Cluster, José Ignacio Hormaeche, presented the important investments planned in key technologies and infrastructure for the energy transition, both globally and in Europe and Spain. Hormaeche explained the objectives and main measures of the “Net Zero Industry Act” to support European industry in the energy value chains, and highlighted the strengths and opportunities of the Basque energy sector in areas such as floating wind power, the digitalisation of electricity grids, green hydrogen and industrial decarbonisation. The guest speaker was Alberto Granados, President of Microsoft Spain, who gave an inspiring insight into the impact of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) on business organisations. He then joined a round table discussion with Silvia Nuñez, Head of Digital Transformation at Iberdrola; Juan José Casado, Chief Digital Officer at Repsol; and Enric Delgado Samper, Director of the IBM Client Engineering Team, which was moderated by José Luis del Val, Professor of the Department of Mechanics, Design and Industrial Organisation of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Deusto. Round-table participants shared use cases and applications of GAI being developed in the energy sector, and discussed the challenges of using GAI in business versus the expected benefits.
